Professor Richard Champlin currently serves as the Chairman of the Department of Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapy with over 30 years of experience in clinical and translational research involving hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. He is past President of the American Society of Blood and Marrow Transplantation as well as the Center for International Center for Blood and Marrow Transplantation Research. He is a previous Board Member of the National Marrow Donor Program and a current member of the HRSA Advisory Committee for Blood Stem Cell Transplantation. The Department at the MD Anderson Cancer Center has a major research focus on cord blood transplantation including administration of the Cord Blood Bank and the clinical research program to assess novel approaches to enhance engraftment and hematopoietic/immune recovery and disease free survival. He continues to collaborate with a leading institution in enrollment of patients on clinical research studies of the BMT-CTN and committed to continued enrollment and participation in this important research.
